Nation / IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Marriage Dissolves Sex-Abuse Charge
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Charges against an illegal Mexican immigrant jailed in January for having sex with a minor were dismissed because it turned out the two were married. Pedro Sotelo, 22, was charged with aggravated sexual assault to a child after he and Adela Quintana, 14, who was pregnant, were found in Houston. Lawyer Nancy Revelette found that the pair were legally wed under Texas common law because they had presented themselves as husband and wife and no one had complained about the relationship.
