Nonunion Firm Named in San Bernardino Sweatshop Probe: State and federal authorities, who earlier named two unionized garment-manufacturing companies in connection with an investigation of possible labor law violations at a Chino plant, now say a third, nonunion firm is also a target. The nonunion firm was identified as Los Angeles-based Danny Boy Inc., which makes children’s clothing. The union firms identified earlier are a Los Angeles coat maker, M. Shapiro Co., and one of its contractors, Anza Fashions. Authorities said 17 workers at Anza’s Chino plant, which produced goods for both M. Shapiro and Danny Boy, recently went without pay for three weeks. Although much of the $7,320 in back wages has been recovered, authorities said, the workers are still owed about $3,000. In addition, authorities said they are considering seeking child labor penalties in connection with two boys, ages 12 and 15, illegally sewing at home for Anza. The firms have denied wrongdoing.
