A man who was injured as he worked on a conveyor belt 100 feet above ground was rescued by firefighters using an elevated platform, fire officials said Tuesday.

The rescue of Terry Burke, 22, took about an hour and 20 minutes and involved a dozen firefighters. Burke, an employee of Robertson Ready Mix, was injured Monday while working with others to fix a conveyor belt at the plant’s quarry in the 9000 block of East Santa Ana Canyon Road.

Burke was treated on the conveyor belt to stabilize his back and spine before he was lowered to a waiting helicopter, fire officials said.
