Andy Irons of Kauai, Hawaii, recorded the day’s highest score with a 20.17, followed by Ben Bourgeios of North Carolina, who scored a 19.67.
In bodyboarding competition, Jason Voelkl of Tustin scored one of the best rides of the day, which helped him advance to the main event.
Round 2 of the main event begins at 7 a.m. today, followed by the bodyboard main event. Longboard trials begin in the afternoon.
