Libraries Need Consultant’s Review
* The majority of cities in Ventura County support the hiring of a library management consultant to review our county library system.
The state and county no longer want to fund libraries, and each year the library budget is reduced. We now run our libraries on skeleton hours, with reduced staffs and barely any money to buy books. We must give a library consultant a chance to come up with some answers.
We must put a library benefit district advisory vote on the November ballot. We must urge our cities to continue to cooperate for the benefit of all Ventura County citizens. If the county does not budget monies for the coming year, we will be forced into more cuts. The situation is untenable. I know that county money is divided among the departments that serve the community. But would you not consider the libraries a high priority?
