Council Monitoring Water District Plan

Share

City Council members made it clear this week that they will carefully track a proposal to consolidate South County’s 18 water districts.

A bill being supported by state Assembly Speaker Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove) would merge 25 special districts countywide, including the South County water agencies, into a single unit.

Laguna Niguel’s council members made no commitment to the proposal but agreed to send a letter to Pringle indicating their concern.

Local districts, meanwhile, have formed the South County Issues Discussion Group, which opposes the plan and argues that the new agency would be dominated by North County water officials.

The group has made several presentations to city councils in the past two weeks.
