Hurricane Alma to Bring Chance of Rain

Share

Although the San Fernando Valley should be sunny and pleasant this week, with temperatures a bit lower than normal, there is a slight chance of rain due to a hurricane off the southwest coast of Mexico.

And there could be thunderstorms in the Antelope Valley and other desert areas to the north late in the week. Weather watchers are tracking a storm system that is moving south from the Gulf of Alaska that could hit desert areas Wednesday or Thursday.

But the chance of rain is no more than 12%, according to Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The forecast from the weather service calls for morning low clouds and fog clearing to sunny skies in the afternoon all week--typical of June weather in Southern California.

Hurricane Alma is expected to land in Mexico early this week. “It could actually drift up this way later in the week,” Rockwell said. But it’s unlikely we’ll get any precipitation from the storm.

“The water is still kind of cold, in the 60s,” Rockwell said. “Hurricanes can’t survive in those kinds of temperatures.”

Meanwhile, temperatures across the Valley--typically in the low 80s--will be slightly cooler this week.

On Monday, the high temperature is expected to be 77 in Burbank, 75 in Van Nuys, 78 in Northridge and 82 in Woodland Hills.
