School Offers Area Access to Internet
In an attempt to bring area residents inexpensive access to the information superhighway, Cal Lutheran University has linked up with Los Angeles Free-Net, a nonprofit, low-cost provider of Internet service.
The arrangement will provide residents of Camarillo, Simi Valley and the Conejo Valley with unlimited access to the Internet for $15 to $30 a year, said Ken Pflueger, director of information services for the university.
Commercial providers often charge that much for a single month, he said.
“We thought offering a low-cost alternative would be a benefit to the whole community,” Pflueger said.
For $15, residents can download information, text only, from the Internet and open an e-mail account. For $30, they can gain access to graphics packages such as Netscape.
