Obituaries : Theodore O’Dell; Retired Superintendent

Theodore W. “Ted” O’Dell of Ventura, a retired construction superintendent for Morrison-Knudsen Corp. and 73-year county resident, has died. He was 87.

O’Dell was born March 22, 1909, in Bramer, Mo. He came to Ventura County in 1926 from Fellows, Calif.

He worked as a construction superintendent for Morrison-Knudsen in various locations throughout the world, including two tours in Vietnam, and retired in 1971.

O’Dell was a 50-year member of Operating Engineers Local 12 and San Buenaventura Lodge 214 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He served in the Marine Corps aboard the Lexington.

O’Dell is survived by his wife, Eda; three sons, Stephen and Patrick, both of Ventura, and Timothy of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; a sister, Jackie Keys of Taft, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in 1983 by his oldest son, Theodore “Mike” O’Dell.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the family home.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
