An explosion in an underground circuit was blamed for knocking out power to 3,000 Southern California Edison customers Wednesday night in west Ventura.
The outage began about 6:50 p.m. and affected residential and business customers along Harbor Boulevard from Figueroa Street to Spinnaker Drive, Edison spokesman Joe McDonough said.
“Seventy-five percent of our customers had their power restored at 8:30 p.m.,” McDonough said. Power was expected to be restored to the remaining customers by 9:45 p.m.
Ventura police closed Harbor Boulevard between California Street and Sanjon Road, and closed the southbound onramp to the Ventura Freeway at California Street because of repair work. The road closure was expected to be in effect until about 3 a.m. today.
The cause of the explosion was unknown.
