City Council May Reduce Trash Fees

Share

A recent drop in disposal fees charged at county-operated landfills may translate into slightly lower trash collection rates for the city’s residential and business customers. The City Council will seek public comment Tuesday on a proposal to trim the rates.

If the annual rate adjustments are approved, the new fee for residences would be $13.96 a month, a decrease of 40 cents. The new pickup charge for commercial trash bins would drop 39 cents to $95.91.

Those rates would be in effect for one year, starting in July.

Also on the council agenda is a proposal for Placentia to become an “electric vehicle-ready community” by installing a charging facility, possibly at City Hall, that would be available to the public.

The intent of the program would be to reduce air pollution by encouraging the use of electric vehicles across the region.

Other communities joining in the clean air effort are Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Newport Beach, Placentia, Santa Ana and Seal Beach, along with the county of Orange and the county sanitation districts.

State funding is available to help pay for the electric vehicle chargers, which cost about $20,000 to install.

In another matter, the council will consider making appointments to the Planning, Cultural Arts, Recreation and Parks, Traffic Safety and Civic Center Authority commissions. A seat is also open on the city’s Historical Committee.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at council chambers, City Hall, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
