John S. Goodall; Illustrated Children’s Books

John S. Goodall, 87, artist who specialized in watercolors and wordless children’s books. Born in Heacham, Norfolk, England, Goodall studied privately with painters and at the Royal Academy School of Art. During World War II, Goodall served in India, where he first began working with watercolors. His first book published in America was the 1968 “The Adventures of Paddy Pork,” and Goodall will probably be best remembered for his series on Paddy and on Naughty Nancy. Altogether, he illustrated more than 20 books circulated around the world by New York publisher Simon & Schuster and others. Goodall was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour, the Royal Society of British Artists and the National Society of British Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
