A 50-year-old man was stabbed in the neck during an attempted robbery Monday night as he walked his dog in the 4500 block of Libbit Avenue.

David Harmer of Encino was listed in stable condition Tuesday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center after being stabbed about 10 p.m. Monday by an assailant who apparently wanted Harmer’s wallet, said Det. Robert Johansen of the West Valley Division.

After Harmer said he had no cash, the assailant stabbed Harmer in the neck, police said.

“We really need to get a few more answers about this thing, see if there was a struggle or something else,” Johansen said.

“To be slashed across the neck like that is pretty brutal. And since we haven’t been able to talk to him, we have been trying to sort out if there were more than one suspect involved. A witness said there were two people sitting on a nearby bench right before the incident.”

Harmer, recovering from emergency surgery on Tuesday, was unable to be interviewed, police said.
