SANTA ANA — Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who grabbed a 12-year-old girl as she walked to school last week and tried to force her into his station wagon.
The incident occurred about 7:20 a.m. June 26 as the girl walked in the 400 block of North Sullivan Street, police said. She screamed and broke free.
Police describe the man as a light-skinned Latino, 30 to 35 years old, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10 and 140 to 150 pounds. He has black hair and was wearing a blue plaid shirt or jacket, with blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
Witnesses described his car as a late model white station wagon, possibly a Ford Taurus, with all the windows tinted. The man was standing by the rear of the station wagon with the hatch open as if working on the car as the girl approached, she told police. As she walked by, he suddenly grabbed her and tried to force her into the car, she said.
A number of people heard the girl scream and emerged from their businesses to see the man flee, said Sgt. Bob Clark.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Carol Craig of the Santa Ana Police Department Child Abuse Section, at (714) 647-5019.
