News Corp. has appointed David Evans executive vice president of the office of the chairman, a newly created position to coordinate the company’s worldwide satellite TV operations.

Evans, who has been president and chief operating officer of Fox Television for the last two years, will oversee News Corp.’s satellite ventures in Asia, Japan, Britain, Australia, Latin America and the United States.

He will continue to be president and chief executive of one of the ventures, Sky Latin America, which has absorbed much of his attention over the last year. Evans will also work closely with Preston Padden, who was recently named head of American Sky Broadcasting, News Corp.’s joint venture with MCI Communications Corp.

The appointment is one step in what is expected to be a reorganization at Fox Television. News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch is said to be pressuring David Hill, president of Fox Sports, to take a broader role at the company that might include assuming some duties of Chase Carey, chairman and CEO of Fox Television. Hill could free Carey to concentrate more on deal making and less on the day-to-day operations of the station group, the cable services and the television network.
