Revolution Gets Shootout Victory Over Clash on Woodring’s Goal

Peter Woodring scored in the sixth round of a shootout Saturday night to give the New England Revolution a 2-1 victory over the Clash in Major League Soccer before 18,813 at Spartan Stadium.

New England, which won the shootout, 4-3, tied the game in the 66th minute on John Kerr’s goal.

Woodring earned an assist on the play.

After a scoreless first half, U.S. national team star Eric Wynalda opened the scoring for San Jose in the 60th minute, beating the Revolution goalkeeper, Jim St. Andre.

John Doyle and Ben Iroha drew assists.

New England improved to 7-8 and San Jose dropped to 8-8.
