A La Puente woman was in custody Sunday on suspicion of killing her 5-year-old daughter and then leaving the body in a Baldwin Park apartment, sheriff’s officials said.

Deborah Reynolds, 32, was arrested Saturday after she called Covina police about 6:30 p.m. and told detectives she had killed her daughter, said Deputy Diane Hecht, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Investigators found the girl, Breeann Spickard, on the floor in a bedroom of the apartment in a Baldwin Park Boulevard complex.

A coroner’s inquiry may determine the cause of her death, but investigators believe she had been dead for at least 24 hours before she was found.

Baldwin Park police took Reynolds into custody and booked her on suspicion of murder. She was being held without bail at the West Covina jail, awaiting arraignment.

Reynolds, her daughter and her 7-year-old son lived in La Puente, but apparently had been staying at the Baldwin Park apartment for about a week, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said. The boy is now with Reynolds’ mother, she said.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are working on the case with the Baldwin Park police.
