150 Acres Burn in Brush Fire

Share

A brush fire in Hasley Canyon charred 150 acres Monday without threatening any structures or causing serious injuries, but prompting the evacuation of several horses boarded nearby, fire officials said.

The blaze, which began shortly before 1 p.m., occurred near the intersection of Hasley Canyon and Romero Canyon roads in Val Verde, west of Santa Clarita, said county Fire Department dispatcher Charlotte Kramer.

About 250 firefighters--one of whom suffered a minor lower back injury--battled the flames with the support of five helicopters, three fixed-wing aircraft and 40 fire trucks.

In a separate incident, a mobile home park was briefly threatened Monday night after a brush fire erupted near the Antelope Valley Freeway at San Fernando Road, near an oil field.

Three water-dropping helicopters and 50 city and county firefighters were dispatched to the one-acre Santa Clarita fire, fed by heavy brush and oak trees. No structures were damaged and no one was hurt.

Both fires were contained and both are under investigation.
