Tyson-Seldon Move Forces Change for De La Hoya Bout

The scrambled boxing calendar began to take shape Monday, as the postponed Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon heavyweight title bout was tentatively rescheduled for Sept. 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The fight was originally scheduled for this Saturday, but Tyson, suffering from bronchitis, pulled out, and the Sept. 7 date has been requested by promoter Don King, assuming Tyson recovers in time to train for the bout.

The Tyson-Seldon delay pushes back Tyson’s projected fight with Evander Holyfield, once scheduled for October and now possibly moved to November.

And promoter Bob Arum, who had planned to stage an Oscar De La Hoya-Miguel Angel Gonzalez fight Sept. 14 at Caesars Palace, is now looking to Sept. 28 or early October to avoid conflicting with the Tyson card.

That, in turn, could delay plans for a Dec. 7 rematch--possibly at either the Rose Bowl or the Coliseum--between De La Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez, who is expected to fight on the De La Hoya-Gonzalez undercard.
