ValuJet Seeks FAA Approval to Fly: The low-fare carrier said it will resume flying in the first week of August if it receives clearance from federal regulators, who shut it down three weeks ago because of safety concerns. The troubled airline submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration a proposal for internal changes that include direct oversight of its maintenance and engineering operations and a revamped pay scale. A company spokesman declined to give details on the routes the airline would serve. ValuJet came under intense scrutiny in May after one of its planes crashed in the Florida Everglades, killing all 110 people on board. The airline was already the subject of an FAA inspection at the time. ValuJet said the changes in its maintenance and pay plan would have a minimal effect on long-term financial results. A spokesman said the impact would be absorbed in the next two quarters.
