New Accord Reached for Sharing Police

The city will continue providing police services to neighboring Yorba Linda for at least the next three years, the City Council has decided.

By a unanimous vote, the council approved a three-year contract worth about $5.6 million a year. The two cities have had the arrangement since 1970, officials said.

Some changes were made to the contract, which will allow the Yorba Linda City Council and city manager more input in negotiations and in the selection of a police chief, if needed.

The contract, Councilwoman Bev Perry said, “draws the two cities closer, and enhances service for both.”
