A fight between two men at a Santa Ana Heights home Saturday left one of the combatants dead and the other hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

Details of the incident, which occurred in the 20000 block of Bayview Avenue after 5:30 p.m, were sketchy. The identities of the men were not made public.

The survivor lived at the home, said Lt. Larry Abbott of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The man who was killed was an acquaintance and was visiting. A second visitor left to go to the store before the fight and there were no witnesses, police said.

Abbott said the survivor, who appeared to have been struck in the head with a hammer, ended up on a neighbor’s lawn. He was admitted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana but his condition was not immediately available.

The other man was found inside his host’s home. He was pronounced dead at Irvine Medical Center.

The cause of death was unknown, Abbott said. The incident was under investigation.
