Outfielder Moises Alou was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Montreal Expos because of a strained right hamstring. The move is retroactive to July 8.
Outfielder Rondell White, out since April 28 because of a bruised spleen and left kidney, was reactivated and played in Tuesday night’s 3-2 loss to Atlanta.
The Expos also optioned left-handed pitcher Kirk Rueter to triple-A Ottawa.

Randy Johnson, sidelined since May 12 because of a bulging disc in his lower back, threw batting practice to his Seattle teammates and said he’s ready for a rehabilitation assignment.
Johnson is scheduled to make a rehab start Friday for the Mariners’ Class-A team in Lancaster.

Boston activated outfielder Kevin Mitchell and optioned reserve catcher Alex Delgado to triple-A Pawtucket. Outfielder Mike Greenwell, on the 60-day disabled list because of a broken left ring finger, went to Pawtucket for a rehabilitation assignment. . . . Kansas City recalled first baseman Bob Hamelin from an injury rehabilitation assignment at triple-A Omaha and optioned outfielder Roderick Myers to Omaha. . . . The Milwaukee Brewers called up pitcher Tim VanEgmond from triple-A New Orleans and designated pitcher Mike Potts for assignment.
