VCTC Dissipates Trust, Transit Funds

Share

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when a Ventura County Transportation Commission official, responding to the Caltrans “Coast Rail Line Infrastructure” report hyping a $647-million investment in coastal “high speed” rail passenger operations, said, “There’s something here that’s doable. The study bears that out.”

The VCTC won’t even fund its own County Rail Plan in a timely manner to improve and expand MetroLink service and provide more convenient and frequent rail service throughout the day. VCTC is even paying for ripping up the only rail route between Ojai and Ventura.

The only thing “high speed” about the VCTC is its ability to dissipate scarce public monies away from mass transit and the last, remaining shards of public trust that the VCTC can do the right thing.
