City Vows ‘Vigorous’ Action on Hate Crime

Declaring a commitment to respect diversity and halt discrimination, City Council members have passed a resolution stating that any hate crime in the city will be vigorously prosecuted.
“Diversity brings to our city a rich and varied cultural heritage,” the resolution reads. “The La Palma City Council states in the strongest terms that it will vigorously fight criminal activity known as ‘hate crime’ with all of the resources at its disposal.”
The council’s resolution, passed unanimously, defines a hate crime as “any criminal or attempted criminal act which is motivated by the victim’s race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability status.”
