SAN BERNARDINO — Police on Friday investigated the circumstances that allegedly led an 11-year-old girl armed with her mother’s shotgun to shoot a 14-year-old boy to death and wound another.
The girl was taken into custody after the shooting Thursday afternoon, and her mother was arrested for investigation of storing an unsecured firearm, a felony, police said.
The girl’s mother, 38, of San Bernardino was in the process of posting $15,000 bail Friday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said. The girl was in Juvenile Hall. A juvenile prosecutor was expected to become involved in the case Monday.
Police have said the shooting was motivated by the boys’ taunting of the girl. What they said was not immediately known Friday, said police spokesman Jim Hamlin.
