Defensive tackle Russell Maryland and cornerback Larry Brown will be in familiar territory when they travel with their new team, the Oakland Raiders, to play their old team, the Dallas Cowboys, in Irving, Texas, on Saturday.

Both players spent five seasons with the Cowboys before signing free-agent contracts with the Raiders. The Raiders will stay in Texas after the game, going to Austin to practice with the Cowboys next week.

Dave Hack, a rookie offense lineman, is fighting--literally--for a spot on the Buffalo Bills’ roster.

For the third time since training camp opened last Friday, Hack scuffled with a teammate. His opponent Thursday was linebacker Damien Covington. Previous foes have been linebackers John Holecek and David White.

The Cincinnati Bengals got a scare when center Darrick Brilz left practice limping on his right foot. It was the same foot he had operated on May 7 because of a broken bone.

X-rays showed no break.

Linebacker James Francis and running back Chris Hetherington, both sidelined because hamstring pulls, and offensive lineman Kevin Sargent, out because of a shoulder injury, will miss Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage.

First-round draft pick Terry Glenn, a wide receiver, missed his second day of practice with the New England Patriots after getting six stitches to close a gash in his chin, suffered when hit by another player’s helmet.
