THE I-MAN, CONT.

There are two points that nobody seems to have picked up on regarding Don Imus (“Shock Is His Middle Name,” by Verne Gay, July 7, and Letters, July 14).

First, to call him or Howard Stern “shock jocks” is a complete misnomer. They don’t jockey anything, and what they say isn’t shocking.

Second, when compared to other practitioners of this “in your face” sort of radio journalism, Imus isn’t very good. Stern is a master of the ad-lib and of the extended, unrehearsed monologue. Imus works mostly from a script, and when he does perform off-the-cuff, he is no more than a bombastic bumbler.

Who needs Imus in the morning? For that matter, who needs him any time of day?

Why can’t we have a good adult music station in the L.A./Orange County area? Radio station managers and directors, wake up and smell the coffee. Senior citizens are still a big buying power and like their type of music. KLAC, you blew it big time.
