PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : Dolphin Barnett May Be Out Longer Than Expected
Doctors repaired torn cartilage in receiver Fred Barnett’s right knee, but extensive damage may keep him out of the Dolphins’ lineup longer than first expected.
“It may be for a significant period of time,” said Coach Jimmy Johnson. “I can’t predict.”
Barnett, 30, will be examined in two weeks before doctors decide on the next move. He injured his right knee in a Thursday practice against the Washington Redskins when he planted his leg while making a cut on a pass pattern. The Dolphins signed Lamar Thomas, a former University of Miami receiver waived by Tampa Bay after his arrest on a battery charge.

Cincinnati Bengal running back Ki-Jana Carter, who missed all of last season because of a knee injury, played in a scrimmage, rushing for three yards in on two carries and catching one pass for seven yards.
