I’m eager to buy my daughter the children’s books by Mexican American poet Gary Soto (“If Fresno Could Write,” by Lisa Broadwater, June 9). But I was surprised to learn that he chooses not to write about any aspects of his 21-year marriage to a wife of Japanese descent because it doesn’t interest him.
I’m Mexican American and married to a Japanese man. It’s a privilege to experience intimately the interesting aspects of Japanese culture, and I’m disappointed that Soto chooses to dismiss them.
