1 Killed, 1 Injured in Parking Lot Fight

A 26-year-old local man was killed and his companion wounded early Monday when a confrontation in a restaurant parking lot erupted into gunfire, police said.

Nanh Minh Tran of Garden Grove was found dead in the parking lot of the Quan Tri Ky restaurant in the 13400 block of Brookhurst Street about 1:40 a.m. when police responded to calls that a group of men was fighting, according to Garden Grove Police Lt. John Woods.

Hiep Chau, a Chicago resident visiting Orange County, was also shot during the confrontation and was found at a nearby home in the 10000 block of Dakota Avenue, Woods said. Chau was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was listed in stable condition Monday evening.

Woods said the showdown is being investigated as a gang-related crime.

Both men were shot multiple times after leaving the restaurant at closing time with a group of men who had been sitting with them inside, witnesses told police. No weapon was recovered, Woods said.
