Bob Miller, the voice of the Kings since 1973, and his TV broadcast partner, Jim Fox, each signed five-year contracts to continue as the team’s broadcasters, the club announced Tuesday.

Miller, who did radio/TV simulcasts of games from 1973 through 1990, had said he planned to look into opportunities with the Phoenix Coyotes because his son lives in Arizona. However, he said the decision to remain was easy.

“I had investigated the Phoenix situation because it was the end of a five-year contract for me and it coincided with the move of the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix, so I felt I should take a look at it,” Miller said. “But I don’t think I really ever wanted to go anywhere else.”

Jay Leach, who most recently was a professional scout for the New York Islanders, was appointed an assistant coach of the Kings.

Leach replaces John Perpich, who became coach of the Kings’ Phoenix farm team. He joins Rick Green as aides to Coach Larry Robinson.

Leach, 43, coached in the American Hockey League for six seasons and was an assistant coach of the Hartford Whalers.
