Kotsay Will Talk to Advisor About Future

ATLANTA — Mark Kotsay, like his former coach, Augie Garrido, is in transition.
A first-round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in June, the former Cal State Fullerton star has been a starting outfielder on the U.S. Olympic team. Kotsay said Friday he’ll talk after the Olympics to his advisor and family about his future.
As for Garrido’s resignation to become coach at Texas, Kotsay said, “I didn’t think he was going to leave.
“He might have been tired of dealing with the administration. Now at Texas he won’t have that and he’ll have better facilities.”
Kotsay said he “would love to see [associate head coach] George Horton get the job. Maybe [Garrido] did it for George. Maybe he did if for [former Texas Coach Cliff] Gustafson. They’re good friends.”
