Apparent Explosion Rattles Complex
An apparent explosion at a Van Nuys apartment complex Sunday night blew out a sliding glass door and sent 40 building residents scurrying outside, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reported.
Two residents of the apartment where the 6:31 p.m. incident occurred were not injured, said Brian Humphrey, Fire Department spokesman.
A small fire in the first-floor apartment had burned out by the time firefighters arrived, and residents had already evacuated, he said.
“Apparently the sound of the so-called explosion caused them to evacuate,” Humphrey said.
There was no estimate of the amount of damage caused to the three-story building at 13131 Barbara Ann St. in North Hollywood. The incident remains under investigation.
