Delta Air Lines to Recall Mechanics: The Atlanta-based carrier will recall more than 200 mechanics as it gears up for the fall launch of its low-cost, no-frills airline. Delta, which has laid off 10,000 workers in the last two years to cut costs, will begin recalling the mechanics this week and add all 200 positions by the end of the year. Earlier this summer, Delta recalled 199 pilots to staff “Project Sunshine,” the code name for its low-cost airline. Delta has so far kept under wraps details of its low-fare carrier, designed to compete with no-frills airlines such as Southwest Airlines Co. and ValuJet Inc. Shares of Delta, the nation’s third-largest airline, rose $2.125 to $73.25 on the New York Stock Exchange.
