Dorothy B. Pease, 87, of Oxnard, has died.

The fifth child of Lee and Minnie Croddy, she was born on July 18, 1909 in Salida, Colo. The family moved to Glendale in 1923, and then traveled through Washington and Oregon.

They returned to Glendale, and “Dot”, as she was known to family and friends, graduated from Glendale High School in 1927.

While in Glendale, Dorothy met Ted Pease, and they were married March 23, 1929. They moved to Santa Paula, Ted working in the rock and gravel business for L.R. Howard, at Montalvo Rock Co.

Their first child, Ronald, was born Oct. 12, 1931. A year later the Pease family moved to Montalvo. Dorothy was an avid bridge player and the friendships she made playing cards lasted more than 50 years.

“She was a great card player and played in many clubs,” said her brother, Vern Croddy of Ventura. “And she enjoyed every minute of it.” The Pease family moved to Vallejo in 1941, living in a 14-foot trailer for seven months.

During World War II, Ted worked as a welder at the Mare Island Shipyard; Dorothy worked in the ammunition depot.

After the war they returned to Ventura County, settling this time in Oxnard. Dorothy enrolled in beauty college and for the next four decades enjoyed doing hair for men and women.

She volunteered for jury duty for several years, and also volunteered for the Senior Nutrition Center.

Pease was preceded in death by her husband.

In addition to her brother, Pease is survived by sons Ronald Pease of Ventura and T. Dale Pease of Camarillo; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
