A.V. Falcone; Attorney and Philanthropist
A.V. Falcone, an attorney and philanthropist involved with Catholic Charities and cultural organizations, has died. He was 89.
Falcone, who had been married for 30 years to state Court of Appeal Justice Mildred L. Lillie, died Sunday in Los Angeles.
When Falcone, a widower, married Justice Lillie, a widow, in 1966, Los Angeles County Clerk William G. Sharp personally issued their marriage certificate. The marriage was performed by Cardinal James Francis McIntyre in the cardinal’s chapel.
Falcone practiced law in the Los Angeles area for 65 years.
He and his wife were well known in Los Angeles social circles for their support of cultural and charitable dinners, dances and other events. They were involved with Keynote 88, the support group for the Los Angeles Pops Orchestra, among other organizations.
In addition to his wife, Falcone is survived by a son, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Dewey Lawes Falcone; a daughter, Dolores Metzger; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, 1400 W. 9th St., Los Angeles, Calif. 90015.
