Los Alamitos Race Course Left in the Dark by Power Blackout
Saturday’s power outage forced Los Alamitos Race Course officials to cancel the evening’s races, causing some fans there who had placed simulcast bets on the $1-million Pacific Classic at Del Mar to be unable to cash their tickets.
Because officials weren’t sure when power would be restored, the decision to cancel was made shortly before 6 p.m.
“We run at night and we can’t turn on the lights or the betting machines,” said John Petti, the track’s publicity director.
Racing will resume today at 5:30 p.m. There are no plans to reschedule Saturday’s races.
