Satellite Campus Plans Grand Opening

Sandwiched between a drugstore and a supermarket, the Camarillo satellite campus of Oxnard College will hold its grand opening Thursday before the Aug. 19 start of classes.

Scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the event will feature refreshments and tours of the 5,250-square-foot facility at 2520 E. Las Posas Road in the Camarillo Village Square shopping center.

Oxnard College has offered classes in Camarillo in the past at other locations, but officials say the newest facility offers the most amenities. After renovations that began in May, the facility has four classrooms and a lab with about 20 computers.

“Classes are needed and wanted out there in the community,” said Cathy Garnica, an Oxnard College spokeswoman. “We need to reach out and serve the community.”

Garnica said the college expects hundreds of students to enroll in the 34 classes that will be offered, including computer, philosophy, business and foreign language courses.

Typical semester courses cost about $39 each, Garnica said. The school will hold walk-in registration Monday. For information, call Oxnard College at 986-5800.
