Approval Expected for Trash Fee Cuts

Trash collection rates for residences will most likely drop by about 6% this fall, in part because of a decrease in county landfill charges.
The City Council had a public hearing on the issue last week and will have a required second hearing Monday before voting on the changes.
The rate being considered would be $11.53 for residences, a 5.9% decrease. Rates for businesses would decrease by about 9%, city officials said.
In April, the county reduced its landfill charges to $27 a ton, down from $35. That enabled Tustin to consider lowering its rates, city finance director Ron Nault said.
