Costa Mesa’s Optum Software Hires President From Allied Signal Unit

William F. Grun has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Optum Software in Costa Mesa. He was formerly president of AlliedSignal’s aerospace systems and equipment division.

* Joann L. Data has been named senior vice president of regulatory/medical affairs for CoCensys Inc., an Irvine developer of products to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders. She was previously corporate vice president for worldwide pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and project management at Upjohn Co. In addition, Peter E. Jansen has been appointed vice president and chief financial officer. He was most recently founder, president and chief executive of Phytomedica Health Products Inc.

* Mel Placilla has joined Robert Bein, William Frost & Associates, an Irvine engineering and planning firm, as vice president for transportation. Placilla, who was previously with Greiner Inc., will be responsible for management and supervision of transportation design projects. Also, Jerome Ruddins was named construction manager. He joins the firm from Willdan Engineering.

* Randy McDonald has become a principal in the Bainbridge Group, an Irvine law corporation. He will continue to concentrate his practice in the areas of corporate law, general business representation, venture capital, technology licensing, real estate, partnerships, limited liability companies and finance. McDonald was formerly with the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.

* Gregory A. Toft has been appointed controller of Ropak Corp., a Fullerton maker of plastic packaging and materials-handling products. Toft had been with Maco Corp. since 1983, most recently as group controller in the West Coast corporate office.

* Tammie Beckstead has joined RiechesBaird Advertising in Huntington Beach as director of public relations. She previously managed a public relations and marketing communications company in Hawaii, and recently worked with America Online as a mixed-media consultant.

* William Tolin Gay has joined the Costa Mesa law firm of McIntyre, Borges & Burns as a partner. He had been with the Irvine office of Bryan Cave since 1991.

* Sylvia Chansler has been named public relations account executive at Roberts, Mealer & Co., an Orange County advertising and public relations agency. Chansler has been with the agency since 1993, most recently as associate account executive.

* Alan Tamura has been appointed Western regional manager for Alpha Systems Lab Inc., an Irvine video transmission software company. Previously, he worked as a closed-circuit television and access control specialist for Arius and as a Western regional sales manager at Richardson Electronics.

* David M. Finley has joined Ingram Micro Inc., a Santa Ana wholesale distributor of microcomputer products, in the newly created position of senior vice president of human resources worldwide. Finley was previously senior vice president of human resources at Budget Rent-A-Car. Before that he worked 18 years for Southland Corp.

* Edward B. Gerber has been named senior vice president and regional commercial banking manager of Southern California Bank. He will continue to be based in Orange, where he has been branch manager since 1982.

* David A. Reed has been elected to the board of directors of InVitro International, an Irvine test kit company. Reed recently retired as president and chief executive of St. Joseph Health System in Orange.

* Kenneth W. Simonds has joined the board of directors of Printrak International Inc., an Anaheim supplier of automated fingerprint identification systems. He is a former chief executive of Los Angeles-based Teradata Corp., manufacturer of fault-tolerant database management computer systems.

* Daren A. Groth has been named executive vice president for PLC Land Co., a Newport Beach real estate developer. He was formerly chief executive of the Pacific Heritage Co. and senior vice president of the Donald Bren Co. In addition, William Holman has been named manager of ward planning and government relations. He was previously with Chevron Land and Development Co.

* Frank Cronin has joined the law firm of Snell & Wilmer LLP as a partner in the Irvine office. He will manage the office’s labor and employment practice group. Before joining the firm, Cronin was managing partner of the Los Angeles office of Jackson, Lewis, Schnitzler & Krupman.

* Kenneth J. Krum has been appointed president and chief executive of Bridgeware Systems, a Newport Beach software development and consulting firm. He joins the company from Enterprise Computer Systems, where he was president.
