The Ventura County Grand Jury handed down an indictment Monday against a Hollywood man accused of murdering a 65-year-old Oxnard woman in July at a Ventura shopping mall.

The charges contained in the grand jury indictment against Alan Brett Holland, 29, includes special circumstances of a carjacking and robbery, which means Holland could face the death penalty if convicted, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Dee Corona.

Mildred Wilson was killed in the parking lot of the Poinsettia Mall on July 20 when she refused to give up her car keys.

Holland was connected to the murder after he allegedly used Wilson’s credit card at a gas station.

Prosecutors say Holland was hanging around a Shell station on Seaward Avenue the day of the murder and on two following days offering to buy gasoline with Wilson’s credit card for people if they paid him in cash. Holland also apparently used the card to buy sparkplugs at an auto parts store on West Main Street in Ventura, authorities said.

He is also awaiting possible indictment in Orange County on felony charges after he tried to flee from officers attempting to pull him over for a traffic violation, Corona said.

When Holland was arrested in that incident, inside the car officers recovered the gun allegedly used to kill Wilson. He is expected to be transferred to Ventura County for arraignment by the end of the week, Corona said.
