Hawthorne Air Show a Tribute to Aviation
Hawthorne will be flying high this weekend as the city presents its 13th annual Hawthorne Air Faire.
The annual event is a community tribute to aircraft, aviation pioneers and to the men and women who built the aircraft. More than 60 aircraft will be on display, including current military planes such as an F-14 Tomcat fighter, in addition to older planes such as a restored prototype of the Northrop Flying Wing, an airplane similar to the B-2 bomber.
In addition to the aircraft displays, members of the U.S. armed forces will conduct a parachute demonstration and do a fly-by of several cities in the South Bay. Members of the Eagle Squadrons, a group of American pilots who fought for Britain before the United States entered the war, will also be honored.
The Air Faire will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, 12101 Crenshaw Blvd. Admission is $5 and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge.
