Two men who had been shot and seriously wounded were discovered Saturday night in front of a Subway Sandwiches shop on Zelzah Avenue, where a double murder occurred in 1991, authorities said.

The two unidentified victims, both in their 20s, were found lying in front of their bullet-riddled car in the store’s parking lot, police said.

The shooting, possibly gang related, apparently took place on Lindley Avenue near the intersection with Hiawatha Street, said Los Angeles Police Officer Howard Sebring.

One victim was listed in grave condition at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with a head wound. The other, who was shot in the back, was in grave condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

Two teenagers were killed execution-style in the sandwich shop on June 30, 1991--James White, 19, a shop clerk, and Brian Berry, 18, a friend who was visiting him.

James Robinson Jr., a part-time Cal State Northridge student who had earlier been fired from the shop on suspicion of stealing, was convicted of robbing the shop and killing the two to eliminate witnesses. He was sentenced to death.
