Church to Offer Free Health-Care Services

The New Christ Memorial Church will host a community health fair Saturday offering free immunizations, HIV testing, mammograms and other medical services.

The church, whose pastor is Grammy-winning gospel artist Andrae Crouch, is co-sponsoring the clinic with the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Los Angeles County Health Department and several other health-care organizations.

“We understand that there are a lot of people without health insurance who feel that they have nowhere to go for these services,” said Katie McCune, an administrator at New Christ Memorial. “We want them to know that there is help available. We are open to everyone who wants to take advantage of these tests.”

McCune said that the inspiration behind the fair came from Crouch and his twin sister Sandra Crouch, who in the last three years have lost their parents and an older brother to cancer. Most of the services offered are designed for early detection of cancer, heart disease and other ailments.

The clinic will also offer blood pressure screenings, cholesterol testing, prostate examinations, pap smears and other medical tests on a walk-in basis.

A staff of volunteer doctors and other health-care professionals will conduct the exams.

The church will also give away free diapers and milk to the first 250 families that arrive for the health fair.

Saturday’s health fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 13333 Vaughn St.
