Boy Struck by Gang Gunfire Outside Home
A 6-year-old boy hit by gang gunfire Tuesday while playing in front of his Hawthorne home was in critical condition after undergoing surgery at Los Angeles County Harbor/UCLA Medical Center.
The boy was playing with a group of neighborhood children when shots were fired and he was hit in the abdomen, said Lt. Arvid Krueger of the Hawthorne Police Department.
The gun battle broke out about 2:30 p.m. in the 13300 block of Roselle Avenue between gang members on foot and in a car, Krueger said.
“What we’re trying to do now is to try to figure out where our crime scene is exactly, what the extent of it is,” he said.
