NBA Sues America Online, Contractor: The online service provider and a sports-game service were sued by the National Basketball Assn., which claims America Online Inc. is selling NBA basketball highlights and scores without its permission. AOL, of Vienna, Va., and Skokie, Ill.-based Sports Team Analysis & Tracking Systems Inc. began the service in January. The service provides scores, time remaining in games, foul shots and other statistics while NBA games are in progress. The league is demanding that AOL halt the service and pay damages. In anticipation of the suit, America Online sued the NBA in federal court in Virginia on Aug. 8, asking the court to decide on the legality of the service. Sports Team Analysis Vice President Bob Meyerhoff declined to comment.
