Man’s Death in Pool Is Ruled a Drowning
An 83-year-old man found floating in a pool over the weekend at a mobile home park in Camarillo had drowned, according to the Ventura County medical examiner.
About noon Saturday, Shalto Frye of Camarillo was found face down in the pool at the Camarillo Springs Mobile Home Park, authorities said. Neighbors pulled him from the pool and tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead an hour later at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo.
Frye was involved in a minor accident about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said he ran his car into a small brick wall near the pool. After getting out of the car, Frye told witnesses he was wasn’t hurt.
Authorities were not sure whether he had drowned or suffered a stroke and ended up in the pool. An autopsy Sunday confirmed the cause of death, said Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.
