Street Party to Mark Groundbreaking for Expanded Senior Center

Share

Visitors of the Pasadena Senior Center have been waiting so long for renovated digs that they plan to dance in the streets for the new building’s groundbreaking ceremony.

The Great American Swing Band will get crowds swaying at the corner of Holly Street and Raymond Avenue in Pasadena during the Sept. 10 event.

Television commentator and author of “Old Age Is Not for Sissies,” Art Linkletter, is scheduled to speak.

Admission is free--and so is the food, but reservations are required.

The old 7,500-square-foot building looked more like an elementary school than a facility that draws 10,000 seniors a year from all over the San Gabriel Valley.

But with an additional 21,000 square feet, the center will have room to stretch its job training, health education and social programs.

Fund-raising coordinators for the center said there are plans to build a computer lab, large multipurpose room, classrooms and an exercise room in the additional space.

For reservations and more information about the groundbreaking, call the Senior Center at (818) 795-4331.
