The California Highway Patrol arrested 27 motorists in Ventura County on suspicion of driving under the influence over the Labor Day weekend, the lowest number in three years.

No fatal traffic accidents were reported between Friday morning and midnight Monday on the county roads and highways that the CHP patrols.

CHP statistics released Tuesday show that drunk-driving arrests declined by seven from last year. By comparison, in 1993, 45 suspected drunk drivers were taken into custody during the holiday period.
